Palgrave Macmillan Annual Lecture Series

Humanities, Social Sciences and Elections

Online Event: Humanities, Social Sciences and Elections
12th December 2024 | 3pm-4pm GMT / 10am-11am EST

In September 2020, we launched The Palgrave Macmillan Lecture Series to mark 20 years since Palgrave Macmillan revived the Palgrave name, continuing a long Macmillan tradition of publishing leading thinkers in the humanities and social sciences.

This year, our lecture Humanities, Social Sciences and Elections will explore what elections can teach us about our society and the state of democracy. We are excited to announce that Rob Ford, Professor of Political Science at Manchester University, UK, will deliver the keynote speech: Why do elections matter? Lessons from 80 years of British election studies. Elections are a central part of democracy, and a unique opportunity to learn about the health of our political system and the changing challenges and divides in society. In this lecture, Professor Rob Ford, will review the lessons learned from eighty years of the Nuffield election studies on when and why elections matter, and what they reveal about a changing and often divided Britain.

Chaired by Ambra Finotello, Executive Editor for Politics, we'll also be joined by Nicola Jones, Director of the Springer Nature Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Programme, who will provide an overview of the role played by the publishing industry in disseminating research with an impact on society, and Palgrave Editor Christian Winting, who will be offering insights from the US Political Science publishing perspective.

This webinar is free to attend, and there will be a live Q&A featuring all of our speakers. Register now >>
