About this book series

As advances in genetic engineering, postgenomic sciences, synthetic biology, neurotechnology, and biomedicine reshape the fabric of life, new legal, ethical, and social challenges arise.

The Biolegalities book series critically examines the evolving relationship between law, life, and (bio)technology, offering explorations of how legal norms and scientific practices co-construct our understanding of life and its value. While biopolitics has extensively mapped the governance of life and neoliberal economies, the entanglements between biotechnology, legal structures, and ethico-legal debates remain underexplored.

The series aims to address this gap by providing a platform for examining how technoscientific knowledge is reshaped by, with, and against legal knowledge. Through a multidisciplinary approach—drawing on legal philosophy, anthropology of law, socio-legal studies, history and philosophy of science, and science and technology studies—the series investigates the broader implications of biolegality for society, politics, and the environment. Moving beyond mere regulation and control, it considers the generative and transformative potential of biolegal engagements across diverse cultural, social, and geopolitical contexts.
