Call for papers – Special issue on “Emerging and Traditional Risks: Challenges for Financial Institutions and Regulators”
The Journal of Banking Regulation (JBRE) announces a call for papers for a special issue on “Emerging and Traditional Risks: Challenges for Financial Institutions and Regulators” in partnership with the Wolpertinger Annual Conference 2024, organized by the Department of Economics, Business & Statistics, University of Palermo, Italy, August 28-31, 2024. JBRE is a prestigious international journal in the field of banking and financial regulation publishing relevant and rigorous empirical and theoretical research.
Financial institutions play a key role in managing financial and non-financial risks that are inherently connected to the functioning of the financial system. On the one hand, some of them are emerging risks that arise because of technological advancements or recent developments that can directly or indirectly impact the financial industry (e.g., cyber risk, environmental risk, geopolitical risk). On the other hand, traditional risks that have always been typically managed by financial institutions (e.g., credit risk, market risk, liquidity risk) require innovative, comprehensive and sophisticated approaches, techniques and procedures due to the evolution of such risks, as well as their interactions with emerging risks. Against this background, financial regulators and supervisors play a key role in avoiding excessive risk-taking by financial intermediaries and achieve financial stability by means of micro- and macro-prudential policies.
Considering this, the present special issue will feature theoretical and empirical contributions exploring various types of risk—along with risk management practices, processes, strategies, regulation, and supervision—within the banking, insurance, and financial industries, including:
- Credit, market, operational and liquidity risks.
- Legal and compliance risks.
- Investment risk.
- Counterparty risk.
- Sovereign risk.
- Systemic risk.
- Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) risks.
- Fraud risk.
- Cyber and technological risks.
- Geopolitical risk.
- Reputational risk.
- Strategic risk.
- Regulatory risk.
- Model risk.
- Any interrelationship amongst such risks.
