About Latino Studies
Latino Studies is an international, peer-reviewed journal. Its principal aim is to advance interdisciplinary scholarship about the lived experience and struggles of Latina/x/o people for equity, representation, and social justice. Sustaining the tradition of activist scholarship of the founders of Chicana/x/o Studies and Puerto Rican Studies, we critically engage the study of the local, national, transnational, and hemispheric realities that continue to influence the Latina/x/o presence in the United States.
Latino Studies provides an intellectual forum for innovative explorations and theorization, and is committed to developing a new transnational research agenda that bridges the academic and non-academic worlds and fosters mutual learning and collaboration among all the Latino national groups. We publish scholarly research, periodic reports on curriculum developments and pedagogy, analyses of significant regional and local events, and letters from our readers on our contributors' articles.

General submission guidelines
We welcome submissions of original research articles from scholars in the national and international research communities. Manuscripts should preferably be submitted in English, in Word format, via electronic attachment. Please double space the entire manuscript, including all notes and bibliographical references, and make sure all pages are numbered consecutively. Scholarly articles should not normally exceed 8,000 words in length.
Manuscripts should not contain any author details to preserve anonymity during the peer review process. Authors should include the abstract and keywords not only in the metadata but in the blinded manuscript as well.
To submit, authors are requested to provide the following items: 1) an Authors Contact and Affiliations page containing the title of the manuscript, the author’s name, country, full departmental and institutional affiliation, title, active email address, and a conflict of interest declaration. 2) A short biography on submission that will be published alongside the manuscript if it is accepted. Book and film reviews will not include a biography. 3) A blinded manuscript that should not contain any author details to preserve anonymity during the peer review process. Authors should include the abstract and keywords not only in the metadata but in the blinded manuscript as well.
Please note that the Journal can only accept submissions of unpublished manuscripts that are not being considered by other publications.
Initial submission
A central and longstanding pillar of the mission of Latino Studies is the mentoring of junior scholars. We are proud of our history of giving meaningful and helpful feedback before the external review stage, so that junior scholars will have a greater chance of success. Our Editorial Board reviews all new submissions four times per year to assess readiness for external review and offer critiques and suggestions meant to strengthen each submission’s likelihood of acceptance, with a particular eye to strengthening the submissions of graduate students and untenured faculty.
Peer review
Latino Studies operates with a double blind peer review process. This means that both the reviewer and author identities are concealed from the reviewers, and vice versa, throughout the review process.
